There were 24 bids in excess of 1000gns when Upthorpe Farms of Didcot, Oxon, dispersed their herd at Taunton Livestock Centre. One-third of the 170 lots was bought by Devon bidders who paid a top price of 1785 for a Gelpro-sired second calver, offered with twin heifer calves by Zidane. In-calf heifers found a strong trade reaching 860gns, while yearlings sold to 430gns. Leading averages: 107 cows and heifers 733, 19 in-calf heifers 788 (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).


SUFFOLK


Orkney and Shetland buyers took several of the highest-priced lots at a collective sale of Suffolk sheep at St Boswells where bidding reached 2100gns for a gimmer shearling from the Parkburn flock dispersal. The gimmer was by Glenho Morning Glory and out of a Crosemanor Commandeur ewe (John Swan).


HOLSTEIN


The dispersal of the Leverhulme herd from The Wirral, Cheshire, put 447 head back on the market, selling to a top price of 1150gns. The bid came for a second-calver, one of a good run of daughters by Arpagone. Averages: 248 cows and heifers 608 (including 51 heifer calves at 143), 18 in-calf heifers 694, 32 recently calved heifers 516 (Wright Manley).
