Roscrea Limousin sale tops at E8200

Co Donegal-based John Green topped yesterday’s Roscrea Premier sale of Limousins with the December 2009-born Greenhill Emperor, which sold for  €8200. Having stood junior male champion earlier in the pre sale show, this Wilodge Tonka son out of the Meridien daughter Greenhill Unique and with a 5 star Suckler Beef Value of €111, met a flurry of bids before eventually being purchased by Colin Watts, Llanddew, Brecon, Wales for his commercial herd.

ilim11lot72rosmar 4602.jpgEven though the sale didn’t attract any five-figure sums, trade was steady, commented breed secretary Paul Sykes. “The most encouraging factors were a clearance rate of 80% with an average of €3108 and more than 20% of the animals entered making in excess of € 4000.

“Likewise in the female section we saw a clearance rate of 73% with an average of €3042, buyers are selective but as always willing to pay for quality,” he added.

Stanley Richardson, Newtowngore, Co Leitrim, saw his Ampertaine Abracadbra-sired Newtown Escort sell for the second highest price in the male section at €4800.

ilim11lot43rosmar 4546.jpgOut of Newtown Clodagh, who goes back to Cloughead Lord and Ideal 23, the first prize Escort had a 5 star Suckler Beef Value of €118 and a high star rating in most traits heads. He sold to an undisclosed buyer from Northern Ireland.

In at €4600 was an Ampertaine Commander son Moloskey Ebay from Brendan Clancy, Mullagh, Co Clare. Ebay who had won his class at the National show in Tullamore in 2010 and was also a prize winner in the pre sale show is out of Moloskey Caroline. With a pedigree combining Sympa, Pelletstown Newman and Geant along with a 5 Star SBV of €117, Ebay sold to John English, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

Trading at €4400 was Gerry Walsh, Ballina, Co Mayo, who saw his second prize Crillaune Ed Ric head to Lanarkshire, Scotland with Ron Cruickshank for his Kype herd. Sired by Fieldson Alfy and out of the Grahams Samson daughter Clooney Quinn Arlene, Ed Ric has a 5 star SBV of €133.

Mac Murphy, Enfield, Co Meath, saw Keltic Emeraldking selling at €4400 to Noel Jennings, Hollymount, Co Mayo. This much admired bull is by Wilodge Vantastic and out of the Greenwell Major daughter Cwmpedran Tigerroyal. He has previously won the best young bull in the North East Club herd competition and has a 5 star SBV of €119.

Selling at €4200 was Hill Top Evander from Thomas Murphy, Mullagh, Co Clare. This first prize Milou son is out of Reserpine, a Moero daughter. With a 4star SBV rating of €54 and a muscle score of 120, he was knocked down to W Shennan North, Tuanbeaay, Ayrshire.

Having won his class at the Beef Expo 2010 he stood second in the pre-sale show and is by Fieldson Alfy out of the Lino daughter Moneygold Billie. With a 5 star SBV €117, he sold to John Fitzparick, Bruff, Co Limerick.

Thomas Murhy was back in again selling his senior champion Hill Top Eros making €4100. By the ever popular Ronick Hawk and out of the Navarin daughter Clounlaheen Ann, Eros has a 4 star SBV €86 and sold to previous buyer William Shennan, Ayrshire.

ilim11lot19rosmar 4466.jpgAnother bull to change hands at the same money was Kilcara Eanna from Messrs Patricia and Jos Waldron, Tuam, Co Galway. This Milbrook Tanko son out of the Navarin daughter Kilcara Bonni, boasted a 5 star SBV €147 and sold to Barney O’Sullivan Dunlavin.

In the female section choice females met a strong trade. Top price on the day went to Daniel Tynan, Mountrath Co Laois who sold Ardlea El. Having been a prize winner in the pre sale show on the Sunday evening, this Sympa daughter out of the Nelson dam F039 Sequoia boasted a 5 star SBV €163 and sold at €5150 to Martin Doherty, Carndonagh, Co Donegal, for his Liss herd.

Doonbeg Elegance from Declan Griffin, Doonbeg, Co Clare then sold at €4000. With a pedigree including Ronick Hawk and Mas Du Clo and a 5 star SBV €120, Elegance heads to Maghera, Co Down, with Laurence McEldowney
