Rosemead Aberdeen-Angus hit 6000gns, guest consigners sell to 6500gns
With prospective buyers travelling from all over the UK and Southern Ireland, as well as Czech Republic and Germany, demand was strong at the sale of Aberdeen-Angus cattle from the Rosemead herd on behalf of P C Stovold and Son, Lydling Farm, Godalming, Surrey, on Saturday, which saw a top price of 6000gns.
Heifers with strong calves at foot met a keen reception, while those with young calves met a more hesitant demand. Quality in calf and maiden heifers sold well and a total clearance of bulls was achieved.

Top price of the day in the Rosemead offering was 6000gns paid for Rosemead Bright Maid H880, a strong heifer sired by Ellin Erroneous C570 and out of Rosemead Bright Maid D474, a Lockerley Mere Boy Z303 daughter. She was sold with a promising March born heifer calf by Lockerley Profit J104 to Messrs Campbell, Wedderlie, Berwickshire, Scotland.
The next top price was a call of 4200gns paid by Petersfinger Farm Partnership, Salisbury, Wilts, for Rosemead Bellmaid J907. This two and a half year old heifer is by the Lord Horatio of Blelack son Rosemead Kildare E358 and is out of an Ellin Erroneous C570 daughter. She sold with a heifer calf at foot by Netherallan Peter Pershore E052.
J and J Moores, North Moss Farm, Formby, Liverpool, then secured Rosemead Evita H852 a three year old cow with a strong bull calf by Rosemead Prince Edward H842 at foot for 3000gns. Evita is by the Wedderlie Kardinal B471 son Rosmead Epistle E547 and is out of another daughter of Lockerley Mere Boy Z303.
Leading the trade for in-calf heifers was a call of 3500gns paid for Rosemead Empress J970, a June 2009-born heifer and due to calve in July to Lockerley Profit J104. She is a daughter of Ellin Erroneous C570 and out of a Ballmanaugh Prestige daughter. She sold to D Whiteford and Co, Borewell, Scremerston, Berwick on Tweed.
Of the heifers running with the bull since end of March top price was 3000gns paid for Rosemead Empress J017. This much fancied heifer is sired by Wedderlie Kardinal B471 and is out of a Lockerley Mere Boy Z303 daughter. She was purchased by previous buyers J and J Moores, North Moss.
Rosemead Bellmaid J011 made 2500gns to Messers Bishop, Church Farm, Finchampstead, Wokingham, Berks. This October 2009-born heifer had a self replacing index of EBV +43 and is by Rosemead Jack Eric F677.
Maiden heifers topped at 2800gns for a promising April 2010 -born calf Rosemead Jaffa Erica K062, a daughter of Wedderlie Black Market G500 out of an Ellin Eroneous C570 daughter. Buyer here was Glympton Farms, Glympton, Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
Several foreign buyers were forward with the first lot in the ring Rosemead Queen Mother F660, a four year old cow by Rosemead Private C415 out of the Mushroom Friar Fergus daughter Castle of Mey Queen Mother 21st. She was purchased by Frau Kranenburg, Bocholt, Germany for 2000gns.
Of the 13 Rosemead bulls on offer, they sold to a top of 3200gns for Rosemead Black Peter J929 by Rosemead Kildare E538 out of the Wedderlie Kardinal B471 daughter Rosemead Black Petal F689. He was purchased by Gostrode Trust, Godalming, Surrey.
Czech Republic breeder Vladimir Sasek, purchased Rosemead Big Man J995, a September 2009-born son of Rosemead Jack Eric F677 for 3000gns. Another Czech-based breeder Jan Sveda, purchased Rosemead Bishop J007 for 2800gns, he is by Wedderlie Kardinal B471. This is the first export to Czech Republic in many years.

Top price of the day in the guest consignments was 6500gns paid for Penguin Tango Bay J376 consigned by Robert Lane, Newport, Shropshire. With a terminal index of +35 and a self replacing index of +48, he is sired by Haymount Wurz F676 and is out of the Tidy Bee line. He was purchased by past Society president Paul Jeenes, Grandon Manor, Frome, Somerset.
Lockerley Black Boromir K173, a yearling son of Rawburn Rommel E423 out of the Netherton Krackerjack B164 daughter Lockerley Black Butterfly E510 made 3500gns. Consigned by L W Van Geest, Lockerley Hall Farms, Romsey, he was purchased by Messers Stovold, Rosemead.
McClemens Quarter Master J013, a September 2009-born son of Nightingale Pilot G401 from D Brenninkmeijer, Field Place, Guildford, sold for 3200gns to Welsh breeders Messers Hart and Hall, St Dials Farm, Monmouth.
Two bulls forward from Glympton Farms, Woodstock, sold for 2300gns each, the first of which was Glympton Tain J375, a son of Lockerley Kruz Prince E558, which sold to Farms Direct, Alford, while at the same money Glympton Rothes, J382, a son of Rawburn Rock Solid F544, sold to Thistlebrook Farms, Bucks.
