RWS 2012: Six year old girl takes gold at pig championship

TS 2572012 RWS Pig Champion.JPGIn the pig ring, a six year old girl took the top honours in the supreme overall pig championship with her British Lop sow.

Catherine Nicholas, with the help of her mother Rachel, showed August 2010 born Catrin Harmony around the ring.  Taking the supreme female champion title and overall champion title, this one is homebred – sired by Bezurell Supreme 2 and out of Giltedge Harmony 31.
TS 2572012 RWS 1963.JPGCatherine, who has been in remission from Leukemia for the last 18 months, has been showing pigs since she was eight months old.  Grandmother Marilyn Jones said:  “I think it’s the thing that saved her life.”
Thereafter, judge William Gregory from Hollins Farm, Selby, North Yorkshire, awarded his reserve overall title to British Saddleback sow Beiliau Dinah 5 from Mr G W Trumper, Pant-y-Beiliau, Abvergavenny.
This January 2009 born sow is homebred and sired by Beiliau Grand Duke 2 and out of Beiliau Dinah 2. The reserve overall title follows on from taking reserve female overall.
