Second day of Smithfield sees a chilly start

The second day of this year’s Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair has been met by a sharp, crisp frost, a great improvement on the rain that we saw here on Thursday.

As usual the sheep and cattle lines are busy with people preparing for championship judging later today, with those with red tickets eager to make the next step to that coveted Smithfield championship.

Who’ll be victorious later is the question on everyone’s lips and its fair to say there are a few contenders in both sections. Among the cattle it could be a good day for Phil and Sharon Sellers, the MacPherson clan, Elfed Williams and a few other outside bets too.

Down in the sheep my tip for the top is same as yesterday, Andrew Bishop, but James Whiteford has a fair pair of lambs through and so does David Gardner. Knocking on the door for the native championship and with a shout at the overall will be Malcolm Stewart, so its a fairly wide field in both championships.

Judging kicks of at nine this morning, so check back later for the results and pictures……
