Severe weather conditions slow trade at Caledonian Marts
Poor weather conditions resulted in a smaller show put forward at Caledonian Marts, Stirling, on Tuesday (3 January).
Despite a total of 1,260 prime sheep and 142 cast ewes and tups going under the hammer, Caledonian Marts said: “more could have been sold to the sellers advantage”.
Prime lambs (1,260) averaged at 206.84p/kg – down 0.35p on the week but up 36.49p on the year – and sold to 243p/kg for Beltex from R Campbell & Sons, Meikle Seggie, or £100 for Beltex from DS & TC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and for Texels from A Duncan, Easter Dullatur.
From the 142 cast ewes and tups put forward, 61 export ewes were sold to an average of £52.33 (-£8.40) and a top price of £74.50 for stock from W Adam & Son, Shankhead.
74 heavy ewes were sold to an average of £93 (+£4.40) and sold to £130.50 for BFLs from Mr Neil, Broadleys; while seven tups went under the hammer to an average of £116.30 (+£30.85) and a top of £135.50 for a Texel from J & M Lylem, West Binny.
