Severn Trent dispersal sells to 2300gns

Trade was fast and furious for all age groups at last week’s sale to disperse Severn Trent Water’s non-pedigree milk recorded Holstein herd at Bulcote, Nottinghamshire and the averages attained at the end of the day make a mockery of the prices received at some recent high profile pedigree herd dispersal sales.

Big numbers of commercial cattle and large crowd can only result in a fast trade and that is exactly what happened.

Top price of the day for females was 2300 gns for a freshly calved heifer sired by Canyon-Breeze Axiom purchased Jack Read and Son of Tharston, Norwich. Messrs. Read purchased several of the leading young cows and calved heifers including a Lucente daughter due with her third in October for 2200 gns. Another Lucente daughter, also due in October but due with her second was the choice of Cheshire commercial milk producers C & S Fitton & Son of Middlewich. A total of 23 milking cattle sold for 2000 gns or more.

The served heifers sold equally as well as the milkers and topped at 2250 gns for a daughter Pasquero Jucar purchased by JB Wallwin of Langar, Notts who also had a Moet Nansen daughter at 2150 gns. At the same price John Fisher of Longtown, Cumbria purchased a daughter of Moet Melody.

Maiden heifer trade was tremendous topped at 1180 gns four times for daughters of Moet Melody and Penn-England Garrison, all purchased by Peter Stone of Stone, Staffordshire.

The fastest trade of the day was reserved for the heifer calves which averaged an incredible £708.46 and sold to 880 gns three times for daughters of Cook-Farm Detective and Penn-England Garrison purchased by David Graveston, Gisburn; James McPherson, Barton-under-Needwood and E.Witter & Sons, Crewe.

he top price of the day however was reserved for the very last animal in the sale catalogue – the youngest of three Simmental Stock Bulls which sold for 3000 gns to Betholt Ltd of Stafford.
