Sheep trade at Kington remains strong
A strong entry of 1,304 Hoggets sold to a mixed trade, with prices back on previous weeks.
There was a very mixed bag of Hoggets on show due to the end of season clear outs and trade was variable depending on quality and the level of meat, with prices ranging from 170ppk to 227ppk. Well-bred and meated Hoggs sold to the best prices.
In total 1,304 Hoggets averaged ÂŁ91 a head.
On the day the top price hogget’s were £114 a head for some 54kg Hoggets from KO Rogers.
Hogget’s between 25kg and 32kg averaged 1.80ppk up to 1.85ppk
Hogget’s between 32kg and 39kg averaged 1.80ppk up to 1.90ppk
Hogget’s between 39.5kg and 45.5kg averaged 2.00ppk up to 2.27ppk
Hogget’s between 46kg and 52kg averaged 1.98ppk up to 2.25ppk
Hogget’s over 52kg averaged 1.88ppk up to 2.12ppk
Meanwhile another good entry of 603 spring lambs sold to a reasonable trade, which had been reducing during the week and again well-bred and meated lambs sold to premium prices. All the lambs averaged ÂŁ232ppk and up to 2.50ppk.
All lambs averaged ÂŁ90 per head.
There was a good entry for the day of 315 cull ewes selling to a good trade, which would have remained similar over the past week. Well meated ewes sold to a significant premium.
The ewes sold to a top of ÂŁ100 for some Charolais x ewes from OH Price and Son and all the ewes averaged ÂŁ68.40 per head with many hill and thin ewes forward. Tups and weathers sold to ÂŁ95 and averaged ÂŁ76. The cull ewes included a large proportion of thinner mule ewes and smaller hill ewes.
