Skipton cattle trade up on the week
Demand for the 22 cast cattle was again strong at CCM Skipton this week. Cull cows traded slightly better than the previous week, averaging £802.62 a head, or 134.16p/kg.
Topping the day’s trade at heifer at £1,182, or 205.5p/kg was the Leyburn-based Bell Bros when selling a Hereford-x heifer.
Next and selling at £1,209, or 121.5p/kg was JD Crabtree and Son, Burnt Yates with a mature balck and white bull.
At £1,113, or 162.5p/g, was E and SCL Harker and Son, Lofthouse, with a Limousin-cross.
Meanwhile a quality turnout of 44 rearing calves averaged a solid £211.73, compared to £138.41 the previous week. The day’s high of £530 fell to a British Blue-x bull calf from Lothersdale’s Geoff Booth.
Another British Blue-x from John Rushton, Elslack, was the standout heifer calf at £465, with the breed average for bulls a solid £462 and for heifers £363.
M Fewster, Gomersal, led the way among the native breed youngsters with Aberdeen Angus-x bull and heifer calves at £310 and £185 respectively.
