The Simmental trade again proved that quality sold with the day’s top call of 20,000gns only 2,000gns off the current breed record.
Overall the trade average was up nearly ÂŁ1,000 on the same sale last year with 81 sold to average ÂŁ5,806 and a 73% clearance rate. This compares to 108 sold last October averaging ÂŁ4,841.
Interbreed Champion Kilbride Farm Comber 11 (Lot 585) hit the high notes and was bought by J and V Wood, Popes Farm, Dutton, Preston. His semen will be marketed by Cogent.
The 19-month-old is a Cairnview Snazzy son from W H Robson and sons, Kilbride Farm, Doagh, Ballyclare. Snazzy was purchased for 15,000gns and has had almost 30 sons averaging more than 6,000gns at Stirling.
Livestock Farmer Focus writer Ian Green of W J and J Green, Corskie, Fochabers, sold Corskie Callum 11 (Lot 601 – above) for 18,000gns. A Ballinalare Farm Nightrider son, he is out of Corskie Furst. Bulls by Nightrider have sold to 10,000gns at Stirling and heifers to 7,300gns at the first leading ladies sale at Carlisle August 2012.
Bidding climbed quickly for Annick Capercaillie 11 (Lot 637 – above) from L D Quarm, Holehouse Farm, By Irvine, and eventually hit 16,000gns. A Cairnview Snazzy son, out of Annick Duchess, he has a TSI of +77 and a SRI of +84 and sold to Messrs McCulloch, Over Hill House, West Lothian.
Hitting 12,000gns was Islavale Champ 11 (Lot 630 – above) from Mr W S Stronach, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith. With a TSI of +55 and a SRI of +59 he is a Glenturk Premier son and out of Raceview Viva. He found a new home with Pitgaveny Farm, Pitgaveny, Elgin, Morayshire.
Team Celtic (Lot 556 – above) from Mr R J MacGregor, Kirkton Of Mailler, Craigend, Perth, then sold for 11,000gns. Sired by Auchorachan Winger, he is out of Team Kiwi and headed to East Lothian with Messrs King, Wolfstar, Ormiston.
Three then made 10,000gns, the first of which was Newbiemains Boston 10 (Lot 519 – above). By Kilbred Farm Rainmain and from Jim and Patricia Goldie, this one was secured by Stephen and Co, Burnside of Idoch, Turriff, Aberdeenshire.
Delfur Chas 11 (lot 586) – a Delfur Willie Wonka son took the golden ticket at the same money. This March 2011 born bull from Delfur farms has a TSI of +92 and a SRI of +86. He sold to Messrs Hollingworth, Midhope Hall Farm, Sheffied, South Yorkshire.
Then, Drumsleed Cairo 11(Lot 622) was secured by Messrs Craig, Craigton, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire. This Ashland Perfect son is out of Drumsleed Viona and has a TSI of +85 and a SRI of +84. He was put forward by Mr G W Smith, Drumsleed, Fordoun, Laurencekirk.
Next at 9,000gns was Drumsleed Calgary 11 (Lot 615 – above). He headed to Orkney with Messrs Coghill, Muce, Birsay. This one is a Auroch Ace son, out of Drumsleed Misty. He has a TSI of +58 and a SRI of +56 and again came from Mr G W Smith.
Corskie Connan 11 (Lot 527 – above), which was second in his class, went for the same money, again exhibited by Ian Green and this time going home with Symons Ltd, Attonburn, Yetholm, Kelso.
Then at 8,500gns was Auchorachan Cracker 11 (Lot 589), from D and R Durno and Sons, Auchorachan Glenlivet, Ballindalloch. He is a Saltire Talent son and was reserve breed champion at Turiff and Grantown Shows. Talent sired Auchorachan Wizard, which sold for 20,000gns. He has a TSI of +80 and a SRI of +83. Cracker sold to Snaigow Farming, Hillocks of Clunie, Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
The Junior champion was secured for the same money. Auchorachan Captain 11 (Lot 613), a Saltire Talent son, out of Auchorachan Twinkle has a TSI of +67 and a SRI of +74. His grandam, Auchorachan Polly is the dam of Auchorachan ACDC which sold for 12,000gns. He heads to Glasgow with Stewart Farms, Lennoxtown.
Islavale Cracker 11 (Lot 594) from Mr W S Stronach sells for 8,500gns. This is Glenturk Premier son, out of Islavale Rula and has a TSI and SRI of +72. He went to Dovea Genetics, Dovea, Tipperary.
Females:
Champion female Woodhall Bernadette (Lot 500), from Mr H Macaskill topped the female sale when selling for 5,500gns. Sired by Woodhall Volcano the 2-year-old is out of Woodhall Maree and is in-calf to Steinadler. She went home with Messrs McCulloch, Over Hill House, Armadale, West Lothian.
Cairnview Modesty 4th (Lot 513) made 5,200gns when selling to Duff and Son, Broomknowe, Brechin, Angus. She is an Annich Titan daughter and has been running with Bruchag Awesome 09 from 4 June.
Corskie Brynne (Lot 492), from Mr Green made 4,000gns. Sired by Islavale Sabre, she was champion at RHS in 2010 and is out of Corskie Wren. She also heads to Duff and Son.
