Stirling Bull Sales 2013: Senior bulls secure overall championship

Taking the overall championship  title in the Simmental ring is the senior champion Mr W G Macpherson’s Bel DHU Capercaillie 11 bull by Hockenhull Waterloo and out of Blackford Wagtail. This June 2011 bull is out of champion breeding with both of his grand sires champions at the Perth sales. His sire also took the top price of 16,000gns at the same venue in 2009.

The Macpherson family from Inverness are no strangers to the Stirling sales and have taken the championship title five times at the bull sales with Simmental bulls.

Running up the reserve last years’ championship winner Stewart Stonach, Keith, failed to cling onto the coveted title, with his reserve senior champion Islavale Chip 11. It was the first outing for the May 2011 born bull, who is sired by Glenturk Premier and is out of Islavale Wonder.

His overall champion made 18,000gns last year and Mr Stonach will be hoping to replicate this price when his lot of nine bulls go under the hammer later on this afternoon.

Commenting on his pick Judge Iain Green from  the Corksie herd said his overall champion was a “tremendous bull”.

He added:”He had tremendous breed character, tremendous length and carried himself very well in the showring.

“The reserve was a very similar style bull with tremendous shape and tremendous length, but I just felt he wasn’t quite so good as the overall champion.”

Mr Green said the overall show of bulls forward had been very good and it was his most enjoyable year to date at the sale.
