Stirling (Perth) Simmental bull preview

And here goes with the next of this week’s preview pieces for next week’s bull sales. This time round its the Simmentals that come under scrutiny. As always it is only my opinion, so feel free to point out anything you like the look of that I’ve missed.

Right, first pick for me is Popes Atom (lot 405)from Jimmy and Vicky Wood. He’s by Blackford Soul Man and out of Popes Nellys Surprise, a Corrick Major daughter. He stood reserve junior male at the Royal Welsh and has a TSI of +31 and an SRI of +37.

Then I’ve picked out Starline Apollo (lot 409). This one is by 20,000gns sire Slievenagh Talisman and out of Starline Kristle 77, a Blackford Hawk daughter. He has a TSI of +24, an SRI of +31 and a calving ease of +3.1.

Following that I’ve marked Silver Birch A Mans A Man (lot 413). This one is by Dovefields Gallant and out of Celtic Princess, a Celtic Merlin daughter. He has a TSI of +32 and an SRI of +39. I also like the look of the next bull in the book, Drumsleed Alcatraz (lot 414). This is by Beeches Rockford and out of Drumsleed Justine, a Preston Boomerang daughter. He has a milk figure of +7, a TSI of +32 and an SRI of +41.

Billy Hazelton has an interesting bull in Ranfurly Amigo A4 (lot 421). This Hillcrest Champion son is out of South Park King King Weikel 2, a Whitemere King Kong daughter. He is full brother to Ranfurly Weikel 3, Northern Irish female of the year last year and reserve for the same award this year. His maternal brothers have sold for 8000gns and 9000gns. His TSI is +22 and SRI is +22 also.

A Blackford bred bull comes next, being Blackford Aristocrat (lot 426) this one is forward from Anne MacPherson, having been bought from her father Billy as a calf. He is by Killbride Farm Strabane and out of Blackford Sonsy, a Curlieu Knight daughter. He was reserve junior champion at the Highland and has a TSI of +20 and an SRI of +22.

Another from Northern Ireland is Derrycallaghan Allan (lot 429), an Omorga Regan son out of Derrycallaghan Top Girl, a Sterling Herkules daughter. This bull was reserve Simmental at Balmoral and Armagh and male champion at Lurgan and Omagh. He was Northern Irish male of the year 2010.

Following on then is Corskie Astro (lot 30). This Popes Laird son is out of Corskie Star, a Burghbridge Lane daughter which was reserve breed champion at the Highland this year as well as champion at Keith. He has a TSI of +31 and an SRI of +38, with a milk figure of +8.

Then comes another from Northern Ireland, Kilbride Farm Annahilt (lot 435) from the Robson family. This Cairnview Snazzy son is out of Kilbride Farm Dora, a daughter of the great female producer Seaview Prince Charming. He has a TSI of +31 and an SRI of +36, with a strong 600 day growth figure of +73.

After that its on to one from the Leedhams, Grangewood Angus (lot 459). This is by Popes Laird, the bull that has bred so well for the Greens at Corskie. He’s out of Grangewood Joy, a Sacombe Wishfull Thinking daughter. He has a TSI of +23 and an SRI of +33 with a calving ease figure of +4.4.

A son of breed record holder Omorga Samson comes next in Strathisla Admiral (lot 468). He’s out of Strathisla Sapphire’s Haka, a Blackford Lionheart daughter. This one has a TSI of +27 and an SRI of +34.

Impressive figures from John Jeffrey follow that with Kersknowe Admiral (lot 484). This is by leading sire Celtic Rock and out of Kersknowe Stunner, a Corrick Monarch son. He has a TSI of +33 and an SRI of +40.

Heading up from the south is Boars Head Argonaut (lot 486) from Rhys Grenham. He is by Seaview Prince Charming and out of Wistow Grace 40, a Curlieu Jasper daughter. He has had a successful show season in the south and it will be itnteresting to see how he compares in Stirling.

I also like Kilbride Farm Adare (lot 491), this is by leading sire Kilbride Farm Newry and out of Kilbride Farm Eunice, a Milnaufa Graduate daughter. He has a TSI of +30, an SRI of +34 and a milk figure of +9, but may be hampered by his calving ease figure of -7.

Some stong bulls feature in the pedigree of the next, Lisglass Ambassador (lot 503). He is by Raceview Stanley, a Raceview King son and out of Lisglass Helina, a Brinkton Brilliant daughter. He has a TSI of +27 and an SRI of 34.

Next up is Skerrington Aladdin (lot 515). He is by Corskie Proton and out of Skerington Regalia 7, a Dovefields Gallant daughter. He comes with a TSI of +32 and an SRI of +38.

One from Michael Durno is next choice, this being Auchorachan Archer (lot 532). He is by Clonagh Tiger Gallant and out of Woodhall Nanny, a Woodhall Javan daughter. He is only the second son by Gallant to be offered with the first selling for 10,000gns in February. He was breed champion at Tarland and second at the Scottish National. His TSI is +21 and his SRI is +21 too.

Those seeking a female breeder might be tempted by Atlow Awesome from David Donnelly. This one, by Hazelden Telstar is out of David’s great show cow Atlow Rhians Valentine which picked up a brace of Royal interbreed wins. He is the only bull to be bred from Valentine and has a TSI of +26 and an SRI of +27.

That’s it for my selection..
