Store cattle sell to £1,200 at Kington

Store cattle sold to a good trade at Kington mart this week (7 Jan), with good competition from the buyers. The yard of cattle was younger and lighter than previous months entries and auctioneers said trade had eased over the last few weeks due, to pressure on the fat cattle trade and larger numbers being marketed over the Christmas and New Year period.

Top price on the day was £1,200 for some Charolais x heifers from TH and V Burton. Overall steers averaged £2.15/kg up to £2.25/kg for some Limousin x steers from R and SM Watson.

Heifers averaged an excellent £1.96/kg, up to £2.10/kg for some Limousin x heifers from the same home.

Meanwhile feeding bulls averaged £1.90/kg up to £2.05/kg (£780 a head) from EC Jones.
