Store cattle sell to £1,740 at Abergavenny

Store cattle prices hit record levels at Abergavenny on Wednesday with Store Steers peaking at £1,740 for a Limousin cross British Blue from J J Greenow and Sons, Llanthony, Abergavenny, the homebred steer weighing 740kg sold to Tim Frost, Northampton.

IMG_0939.JPGHeifers were also a blistering trade selling to £1,380 for Limousin crosses, 535kg from J J Greenow and Sons and purchased by Chris Jones, Chepstow. G T and E J R Rees, Crickhowell also sold Limousin cross heifers to £1,380 (535kg) to Tim Frost, Northampton.

A better weekly show of 397 offered some excellent drafts of strong feeding and grazing sorts which continue to sell to an exceptional trade with no sign of easing.

Yearling steers sold to £900 for Limousin crosses from N E Jones, Goytre.

Grazing steers made to £1,425 (22mths-530kg) for Charolais crosses from J H Davies, Llanwenarth Citra, with similar steers to £1,415 (540kg), £1,385 (510kg), £1,345 (560kg) and £1,335 (540kg). Charolais crosses from G T Goldsworthy, Bettws sold to £1,465 with Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1,295 from the same home. British Blue crosses sold to £1,360 (32 mths) from I G Watkins, Llanthony.

Grazing heifers peaked at £1,285 (25 mths0570kg) for Limousin crosses from A R Prichard, St Nicholas. Limousin crosses to £1,270 (20 mths-580kg) from R J Ikin, Llanvihangel Crucorney; British Blue crosses to £1,180 (460kg) from J R Williams, Nash.

Yearling heifers sold to £800 for Charolais crosses from G B & F E Ralph, Crickhowell.
