Store lamb trade holds up at Bakewell despite poor market conditions

A substantial entry of 9,832 store lambs sold on a solid trade at Bakewell Market last week (30 September), despite a recent sharp reduction in the finished lamb trade.

Top quality lambs sold to £65.50 for Texel crosses from MJ Wells. Suffolk stores sold to £59 for P and M Hayward, while Charollais crosses made £60.50.

Overall lambs averaged £52.61, which reflected the number of smaller, long keep and hill bred lambs in the entry.
