Store lambs top £82 a head at Gisburn
STORE LAMBS were in demand at Gisburn Auction Marts breeding and store sale this weekend.
The pre-sale show was judged by Henry Atkinson, who awarded Anthony Thompson, Foulridge, Colne the champion rosette for his pen of May-born Beltex cross lambs, which later sold for £80.
Kevin Purtill, Westhoughton, Bolton, picked up both the second and third prize rosettes with his lambs which sold for £80 and £73 respectively. Bruce Kenworthy, Todmorden, won the native class with his Cheviot lambs, which sold for £62. Stephen Duckworth, Haslingden, had a great run of Cheviot lambs which dominated the native section and sold in the £65-£68 price bracket. However, it was NM Bilsland, Knaresborough, Harrogate, who topped the store lamb prices with a pen of Zwartbles lambs, which sold for £82. Breeding ewe prices remained strong with T Thompson, Selby, achieving £190 for a pen of Texel ewes.
