Store prices hit high at Kirkby Stephen
The continued rise in store cattle prices didn’t show any signs of faltering at Kirkby Stephen Mart’s sale of store, breeding and OTM cattle on Monday where averages were up significantly on the year.
The 590 head on offer sold to an average of ÂŁ943.27 – up ÂŁ240.62 on the year – for heifers and ÂŁ928.11 for bullocks – a ÂŁ215.25 increase on the year.
Buyers were in attendance from most parts of the country and one of the dearest trades seen so far was witnessed once again.
The annual Kirkby Classic show of potential show cattle was held with Mr Tecwyn Jones carrying out the judging duties. Mr Jones awarded his overall championship title to a smart 10 month old Limousin cross heifer Ninky Nonk, sired by Soleil, and consigned by Messrs Marston, Easegill Head.
She later went on to sell for ÂŁ2,900 to Mr D Hall. Taking the reserve championship was a showy nine month old Limousin cross bullock, Little Mark from Messrs White, Rigg Farm, selling for ÂŁ1,100 to Mr A Geary.
