Strong trade for cast cows at Carlisle

Carlisle‘s weekly primestock sale witnessed on of the dearest trades seen for some time for the small show of 240 cast cows and bulls forward.

Mr Houston of Gretna House, sold the top priced South Devon cow for 188.5p/kg selling to Mr Shaun McGimpsey.  Cows from Messrs Miller of Allerby Hall topped at 184.5p/kg to Mr John Robertson and Messrs Williams, High House, sold cows to 184.5p/kg to Mr John Little.

Messrs Brough, Clappers Farm, sold the top priced Charolais cow for 181.5p/kg to Mr Shaun McGimpsey.  Bays Leap Dairy Farm sold the top priced Holstein cow for 160.5p/kg to Mr Shaun McGimpsey.  Exton Park Farm’s Limousin stock bull went for 160.5p/kg at 1,030kg, bought by Mr Eric Hall.

There was a smaller show of prime lambs forward as a result of the drop in trade last week.  Lambs met a solid trade throughout with the best continental cross sorts meeting a brisk trade, but heavier lambs proving harder to cash.  Top price of the day was £93.80 paid for two pens of Beltex cross lambs shown by Messrs Dodd, West View, both bought by Mr Andrew Dawson.  Top price a kilo was 243.8p paid for a pen of Beltex cross lambs shown by Messrs Thornborrow, Newbiggin Hall Farm, weighing 36kg they sold at £87.80 to Robert Skelton.
