The summer sale of Limousin bulls and females at Carlisle met a solid trade which saw averages up £500 on last year and a top price of 5500gns and six bulls of 2900gns or more.
Sale leader was Liscon Braveheart, an April 2006 born bull bred by Jimmy Mulholland, Great Orton, Cumbria. Sired by Cloughhead Titanic – a bull bought in a half share deal with Robert and Mike Scott, Thirlwall Castle, Carlisle – and out of a homebred dam, he was purchased by commercial buyers Messrs Graham, Gilsland, Cumbria.
Buying for his Kathray herd, Ray Bird, Sutton on the Hill, derby, purchased Castleden Bede at 4600gns. Forward from G D and J Clark, Castle Eden, Cleveland, this November2006 born bull is by Otan and out of a Greensons Gigolo sired dam and carried figures of +5 for milk and an overall beef value of +35.
At 4200gns J Strawhorn and Son, Amisfield, Dumfries, took home Ringway Ben from P J and E Henshall, Lockerbie, Dumfries. By Ronick Hawk Ben is out of a Cloughhead Rocket daughter.
Brampton, Carlisle-based David Stobart sold Cracrop Beamish for 3100gns. Out of Brereton Treasure and by Tomschoice Salem, a former junior interbreed champion at the Royal Show, Beamish went to D M and S V Throup, Malham, Skipton for their Throupbeck herd. The same buyer also took home the October 2004 born fist calver Normande Vergie for 3000gns with her Normande Aaron sired bull calf at foot.
Female trade topped at 5000gns for Honister Annie, a May 2005 born first calver sold with her Calrossie Rodin heifer calf at foot. Bred by W Richardson, Cockermouth, this outfit was bought out by K H Twentyman, Ireby, Cumbria and heads to D W and E M E Armstrong, Chorley, Lancs.
Also heading to the Armstrong herd was the leading maiden heifer, Angien Capanula from I K and A M Grisedale, Milnthorpe, Cumbria. Sired by Mas Du Clo and out of a Cockleshell Olympus daughter, this January 2007 heifer went at 4100gns.
Averages: 11 bulls £2911.36; 20 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £2541; 35 bulling and maiden heifers £1275 (Harrison and Hetherington).
