Summer Limousins lead Carlisle at 5500gns

The summer sale of Limousin bulls at Borderway Mart met with a strong demand resulting in a 100% clearance of the 24 bulls offered and led by a top price of 5500gns.

Eight bulls in all made over 2500gns at this traditional final fixture of the summer round of official Limousin bull sales. The average for the bulls sold leveled at ÂŁ2,372 which was up by ÂŁ468 on the year.

Leading the trade was the well muscled Fieldson Andrew from East Midlands breeders J & M Fieldson, Poplar Farm, Lincolnshire. This December 2005 born bull by Fieldson Ultimate is out of the Greenwell Mike sired Fieldson Sugar. With a Beef Value of LM+25, Fieldson Sugar went to Aberdeenshire buyer W J Morrison and Sons, Banff.

At 3500gns was the December 2005 born Haltcliffe Aramis, by the 42,000gns Cloughhead Umpire bought at Carlisle in February 2005 and out of the French cow Rosette by Nobel. With a Beef Value of LM+26, Haltcliffe Aramis was purchased by H G Blaxell and Sons, Norwich to run in their 200-cow commerical and small Blaxfield pedigree herd.

Haltcliffe Autumn was the Ridley’s second top price at 3100gns. By the Sympa son Haltcliffe Ulsterprince, Autumn is out of the Nebulon daughter Winnington Petrina. Again with a Beef Value of LM+26, this September 2005 born bull was purchased by an undisclosed buyer.

Another Cloughhead Umpire son, Haltcliffe Beeches, sold for 3000gns to M Steel, Cumbria. This January 2006 born calf, with a Beef Value of LM+32, is out of the homebred Sympa daughter Haltcliffe Ultrasound.

The first bull in the ring was Liscon Asann from J Mulholland, Carlisle. Sired by Cloughhead Titanic and out of Liscon Sannube, this April 2005 born bull was purchased by S Bowe, Wigton, who runs the Wiggonby pedigree herd.

Messrs Heald and Co, Nottinghamshire secured 2800gns for their July 2005 born Coachhouse Absolute. By the Greenwell Major son Haltcliffe Picasso, this bull is out of the 13 year old Lumbylaw Joslin and sold to D Bryce, Kirkcudbright.

Of the 23 females sold, trade led at 2500gns for the eight-year old Ronick Paulette from I K and A M Grisedale, Cumbria. By the famous Broadmeadows Cannon and her dam, she sold with her sixth calf at foot, a three-month-old heifer calf Angiean Colette by Dyke Vanbasten and was purchased by A Ewing, Dumfriesshire.

Selling at 2300gns was the March 2006 heifer Trigwr Bela from GD Roberts, Braich Trigwr Mawr, Carmel, Caernarfon. This young calf is by the French bull Saphir a son of the noted Jacot and is out of the Hafodlas Llion sired Hafodlas Shan. The buyer was S J Nixon, Cumbria.
