Aultside calf sets weaned Limousin bull record

A new record of 16,000gns for weaned Limousin bull calves was set by Aultside Overdrive at Carlisle on Friday (14 December).

The eight-month-old embryo calf won the pre-show and sale and the dazzled in the sale ring to secure a 16,000gns bid from Ian Handley, Gunnerfleet herd, Lancashire.

Bred by Gary Patterson, Upper Forgie, Keith, Overdrive is an embryo calf by Ronick Hawk.

His dam is Spittalton Flush, mother of the 65,000gns and Supreme February champion Aultside Meanmachine and the 18,000gns heifer Aultside Mystique.

This follows last year’s headline at the Red Ladies and weaned calf sale when a new 38,000gns record was set by Grahams Natalie from Robert and Jean Graham, Bridge of Allan, Stirling.

However, heifer calves topped at 11,000gns this year, to average a healthy £2,428, which was back £1,558 without a huge price to buoy the figures.

The leading heifer was Haltcliffe Ode from Craig Ridley, Wigton, Cumbria, and was sold to Gary Morrisey, County Carlow, Eire.

She is by Dinmore Jacot and out of Haltcliffe Jingle, whose breeding goes back to the renowned Sympa.

Red Ladies to 20,000gns

The Red Ladies segment saw averages lift over £460 to level at £4,496 for seven more sold, with leading heifer, Grahams Nicki, selling for 20,000gns and being one of 10 animals to hit five figures on the day.

Nicki is was bred by the Grahams and sold to Stuart Perkins, Radstock, Avon. She is by Ampertaine Gigolo and is the first granddaughter to be offered from the prolific Grahams Coffee.

At 17,000gns was Proctors Nellgwyn from Procters Farm, Slaidburn, Clitheroe, which also caught the eye of Stuart Perkins. She is by Ampertaine Foreman and out of Haltcliffe DJ daughter Proctors Gwen.

Two then followed at 12,000gns, the first being Ballinloan Jaegerbomb daughter Huntershall Nebraska from Stephen Nixon, Wigton, Cumbria.

She is out of the powerful Homebryres Vanhee daughter Huntershall Hattie and was sold to Neil Barclay, Crathes, Banchory.

Matching this was Wilodge Naturelle from Shifnal, Shropshire, which is the first Grahams Lorenzo daughter to be offered for sale. She sold to M and JC Gould, Shrewsbury.

Her dam is Wilodge Diamante and combines two strong maternal lines – Vantastic and Cerberus.
