Maerdy and Moralee take Great Yorkshire plaudits

A continental bull and a native bull were the cream of the cream in the supreme beef championship on the final day of the Great Yorkshire Show (16 July).

Both sires won breed championships at the Royal Highland show at Ingliston last month, and were on form again in the Yorkshire sunshine to impress judge George Young, Market Rasen.

Charolais bull Maerdy Morwr was tapped out as the interbreed champion. Bred by renowned Flintshire vet Esmor Evans, he sold to David Stubbs of AJR Farms, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, for £25,000 in 2018.

He is by Maerdy Dynamite and out of the Victorieux dam Maerdy Fee. Andrew Reid, who showed Morwr with son Andrew Reid junior, said there are bull and heifer calves on the ground by him that look exceptional back home in the Newlogie herd.

He won the Champion of Champions title last year at the virtual Highland Show, took the reserve continental interbreed this year and will now head home to pasture.

Moralee takes reserve

An outstanding summer for Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks continued when the three-year-old took the Hereford championship. This followed a Royal Highland native interbreed red ticket last month.

The SMH King Size 87k son is out of Romany 1 Dawn and is the pride of Tom and Di Harrison, Stocksfield, Northumberland.

They will take him home to pasture, with a view to continue to breed with him at home and offer semen for sale.
