Top Angus bull sells for £20,000
Top performance Aberdeen-Angus bull full of North American genetics has been sold privately by Messrs John Lascelles, Balmachie, Carnoustie, Angus, for £20,000.
The bull, Balmachie Everous J070, is named after the first bull which John Lascelles, Sen, and the late John Graham of the Tangier herd imported from Canada in 1971 and has been purchased by John and Kay Hayward for their Lady Croft herd at Wester Aldie, Rumbling Bridge, Kinross. He is by the American sire, Ankonian Elixir 100, which has been widely used in the UK.
Born April 2009, the bull is statistically in the top 1% of the breed with top value traits for terminal sire, self replacing, milk, 400 day weight, scrotal size and eye muscle indices.
Balmachie have retained a 50% semen interest and the bull travels to Cogent next week for collection. Semen will be available for sale shortly. The bull has already served this year`s group of heifers at Balmachie.
His dam, Balmachie Edith, is a daughter of the Canadian pair, Cudlope Ellen Erica and T C Freedom, which is a combination breeding very well at Balmachie.
