Top of 256p/kg for Lim heifer at Wigton Easter show
Hopes Auction, Wigton held their weekly sale of primestock when there was an entry of 169 cattle, together with 528 prime sheep and ewes.
A show of primestock at the Easter Show was presented to a ring of buyers comprising wholesalers and local butchers.
The cattle judged by Jim Robertson were outstanding and a 625kgs Limousin heifer from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks was eventually awarded the championship. This was later purchased by Richard Harrison, Family Butcher of Wigton at 256p per kg. The Reserve was awarded to a 678 kgs Limousin heifer from Messrs R E Miller, West Farm, Aspatria was also keenly sought before being knocked down at 252p to Great Orton Butcher Jimmy Mulholland.
The top price of the day was 256p per kg paid for a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks and was purchased by R J Harrison Butchers, Wigton. A Limousin Heifer shown by Messrs R E Miller, West Farm, Aspatria made top price per head of ÂŁ1708.56 per head and was purchased by Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton.
The top price for Steers was 238.5p per kg paid for a British Blue Steer shown by J G and M Little, Greenhill Farm. Top price of ÂŁ1732.62 per head was paid to D A Harrison, The Old Vicarage for a Limousin Steer.
Bulls made top price of 222.5p per kg which was paid for a British Blue Bull shown by J G and M Little, Greenhill Farm. A Charolais Bull shown by D A Harrison, The Old Vicarage, Westnewton made the top price per head of ÂŁ1440.78.
