Trade at Kington remains robust

A good entry of 1,500 hoggets sold to an excellent trade at Kington this week, withprices up on the previous week.

There continues to be significant difference in the tradebetween well meated and half meated hoggets and it is well worth selecting thehoggets which are well meated to achieve the premium prices.

However, the demand was good for all weights and meated lambssold to a significant premium.

 

The top price hogget’s were ÂŁ117 per head for some 70kg hogget’sfrom RM and GL Watkins.

We had an excellent trade on the week and all the hogget’s atKington averaged 2.13ppk up to 2.30ppk.

Hogget’s between 25kg & 32kg averaged 1.75ppk up to 1.85ppk

Hogget’s between 32kg & 39kg averaged 1.90ppk up to 2.00ppk

Hogget’s between 39.5kg & 45.5kg averaged 2.15ppk up to 2.30ppk

Hogget’s between 46kg & 52kg averaged 2.07ppk up to 2.25ppk

Hogget’s over 52kg averaged 1.98ppk up to 2.09ppk

Hoggets with teeth up averaged ÂŁ80 per head upto ÂŁ117 per head

All hoggets averaged ÂŁ97 per head

 

SPRING LAMBS

Another good entry of 150 spring lambs sold to an excellenttrade some 10ppk dearer than other sales over previous days. All the lambsaveraged ÂŁ275ppk and up to 2.80ppk.

The buyers are looking for lambs between 30kg and 45kg.

The lighter lambs sold to excellent prices and it is well worthtaking advantage of the trade with the lighter lambs between 30 and 35kgselling around ÂŁ270ppk

All lambs averaged ÂŁ105 per head.

CULL EWES, TUPS AND WETHERS

There was a strong entry for the day of 300 cull ewes on theday, which met a good trade.

The ewes sold to a top of ÂŁ119 for some Texel ewes from DT andSM Owens and all the ewes averaged ÂŁ68.50 per head with many hill and thin ewesforward. Tups and weathers sold to ÂŁ80 and averaged ÂŁ65. The cull ewes includeda large proportion of thinner mule ewes and smaller hill ewes.
