Tully test centre sale hits E15,000 top

Limousin bull Millbrook Filio from William Smith, Oldcastle, Co Meath, scooped the top prize at the Elite High Health Beef Bull Sale at Tully Test Centre on Monday.

This Sauvignon bred bull sold for €15,000 to Co Fermanagh-based Gerry Moane and is out of the noted cow Millbrook Kathryn.  Mr Moane intends to use the bull on his Altaponer herd.  This bull boasted 5 stars for Suckler Beef Value, Weaning Export and Beef Carcass.

 

Second best Limousin of the sale was a €7000 bid for Carwin Figgero from Raymond Carolan. He is sired by Roundhill Saturn and sold to Roger McCarrick, Drumree, Co Meath.

And Michael Sexton took home €6100 for Mount Scott Erney, a bull sired by Ronick Hawk and purchased by Joel Richardson, Portadown.

Top in the Angus was a €5100 bid for a bull by Rawburn Rommel from Fintan Keown, Belleek, Co Fermanagh, he was sold to Joel Richardson, Portadown. Then making €4550 was one from Harry Ferguson, Longford, Edgeworthstown Lord Harry J001. He was bought by Liam McCarthy, Newtownards, Co Down.

Following that was a €3700 sale for one from John McEnroe, Oldcastle, Co Meath. This was Liss Kewi J047 which went to P J King, Castlewellon, Co Down.

Leading the way in the Blondes was Philip Lyons, Westport, Co Mayo when he sold a son of Ballinascraw Armani to Larry Coleman, Wexford for €3500.

 

The other Blonde bull on offer was owned by Des Green and sold to J Kearney, Ferrybank, Waterford for €3050.

In the Charolais Teagasc Grange bought three bulls for the Derrypatrick herd, from Elizabeth Hughes, Cootehill, Co. Cavan, at €5100, Jarlath McHugh, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo at €5600 and Pat Farrelly, Drumiscan, Co. Louth at €5600.

Basil Bothwell, Killeshandra, Co Cavan, sold his Jumper bull at €5600 to Michael Long, Hilltown, Co Kilkenny.  Mr Bothwell also had the Champion Charolais which sold at €5000 to Jimmy Cosgrave, Enfield, Co. Meath.

Michael Casey, Newtowncashel, Co Longford, got €5300 for his Pirate son out of a Doonally New dam.

 

Top priced Simmental was a Kilbride Farm Newry son from John Finnegan Coachford, Co Cork, which sold for €5000 to Anthony Brennan, Dunleer, Co Louth.  Second best here was one from Paul McCardle, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan. This was a Cairnview Snazzy son which went for €3400 to John Reynolds, Naas, Co Kildare.
