Twilight Texels Top at 6000gns

A packed house for the start of a hectic weekend at Borderway Mart saw the Twilight Texel sale of in-lamb ewes level 88 head at £1052 and take bidding to a top of 6000gns.

The call came for a gimmer by Castelcairn Prince consigned by Lancashire-based Proctors Farm Ltd. Out of an Anglezarke Nimrod ewe that was bought at the Muiresk dispersal for 4500gns, the gimmer was in-lamb to the 12,000gns Sportsman’s Scania – a Cowal Rob Roy son. Buyer was Mr Jaeban, Cockermouth, Cumbria.

A gimmer from Robert Forsyth’s Baltier entry made 3500gns to join the Sportsman’s flock of Boden and Davies, Stockport. By Kelso Ozone, this gimmer is out of a Tophill Joe dam who is full sister to the 34,000gns Baltier Kracker. She is in-lamb to Baltier Panther – champion at last year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

Stuart and Gail Currie from Settle, North Yorkshire realised 3200gns for a gimmer by Sportsman’s Pasternak from their Beautry flock. Out of a Den Burg ewe this gimmer is in-lamb to Arkle South Pacific. She goes in a two-way split to Scottish buyers James Innes and Graham Morrison.

Early in the sale Mr Palmer, Shipton-on-Stour paid 3000gns for a Castlecairn Prince gimmer in-lamb to Sportsman’s Scania. This gimmer won as a ewe lamb at Cumberland Show and is out of a Baltier King dam.

Averages: 88 head £1052. (Harrison and Hetherington).
