Vendeen claims South of England sheep interbreed
Taking the sheep interbreed title at this year’s South of England Show were Edenbridge-based Tim and Sue Butcher with their Vendeen ram lamb from their Tiramsu flock.
The lamb is fully homebred, being by Tiramasu Exorcet and out of Tiramasu RQ, this was a first interbreed win for the flock which numbers 55 ewes and runs alongside a small flock of Texels and a 30 head strong herd of Aberdeen Angus.
After a run of two South of England interbreed titles in a row the Southdowns had to be content with reserve spot this year. Doing the honours for the local breed this year was a shearling ewe from Messrs Wakeham Dawson and Harmer.
This ewe is by a sire bred in Jonathan Long’s Chaileybrook flock, which is in turn by an imported French sire. She was also reserve interbreed champion at Heathfield show a fortnight ago.
