Welshpool Charolais top at 6,800gns
Charolais bulls peaked at 6,800gns at Welshpool on last Thursday (5 February), with 24 bulls selling to an average of £3,618.
The sale topper was Davally Ivanhoe TI +50 SRI +51 from D Thornley and AJ Smith Swadlingcote, Derbyshire. This 17 month old Balthayock Longbow son is full brother to both Davally Invincible – who topped Welshpool in November at 6,000gns – and the 12,000gns Wesley Equinox. Buyer was R Saunders, Bonvilson, South Glamorgan.
Next and selling for 5,500gns to MJ and DG Owen, Wells, Powys, was the supreme champion, Graiggoch Iceman, a 17-month-old Major son exhibited by G Jones of Llanrwst, Conway.
From the same vendor was the first prize-winner Graiggoch Impressive by Maerdy Grimaldi. He was purchased for 5,000gns by M Hughes and GT Jones, Machynlleth, Powys.
Next best and selling to J Jenkins Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, for 4,600gns was Trefaldwyn Invictus TI +55 SRI +47. This 18-month-old Blelack Digger son came from RA Owen of Welshpool, Powys, who also sold the Goldies Eddy sired Trefaldwyn Icarus TI +40 SRI +36 for 4,000gns to BTR and R Gittins, Welshpool.
Three bulls were purchased for 4,200gns.
First of these was Mortimers Illiad TI +41 SRI +35 from Mortimers Farms, Eastleigh, Hampshire. This 22-month-old Mortimers Vanquish son went to JE Williams and Sons, Craven Arms, Shropshire.
Next was the 21-month-old Wilesa Ivan TI +48 SRI +47, by the 12,000gns Goldies Elation from W Owen and T Wilson Criccieth, Gwynedd. He was knocked down to GL Williams of Brecon, Powys.
Third at 4,200gns was BS Jones, Brecon, Powys, with his class winner Bailea Ikeadotcom a 21-month-old Elgin Fergal son. Buyer was DN Cook, Lutterworth, Leicestershire.
Females
Topping the female section was the 18-month-old champion Midas Iris TI +37 SRI +43 at 5,000gns. Iris won the reserve female championship at the English National calf show for RH Coppinger of Wem, Shropshire and is sired the 30,000gns Balmyle Bollinger. She headed to Ireland with T O’Neil, Claudy, Co Londonderry.
