Wilodge Limousin herd secures new Irish-bred stock sire

Christine William and Paul Tippetts of the renowned Shropshire-based Wilodge Limousin herd, have announced the private purchase for an un-disclosed five figure price, of the eight month old Gerrygullinane Glen.

The Limousin bull was bred by Gerard Walsh and Anne Marie Clarke of the Gerrygullinane Limousin herd, Knockmore, Ballina, Co. Mayo

Sired by Marchermore Augustus, a son of the highly acclaimed Ronick Hawk, he is out of Derrygullinane Daisy which was shown successfully as a calf with back breeding to Mas Du Clo and Generaux. This bull has five star terminal and maternal traits and also scores in the top 1% for muscle in Ireland.

Gerrygullinane Glen had a successful showing season in 2012, culminating in the Limousin and overall supreme pedigree championship at both the Ballina and Bonniconlon Agricultural Shows. He was also a class winner at the All Ireland Limousin Calf Finals at Tullamore Agricultural Show where he went forward to win the reserve junior championship on that day. He was also named best young bull in the North West Limousin Club’s herd competition.

Commenting on the purchase Christine Williams said: “Glen was purchased off the back of being fortunate enough to judge him at Bonniconlon Show in Ireland where I was particularly impressed with his muscling, locomotion, growth for age and abundance of style and character.

“Although we have used Ronick Hawk in the herd in the past with great success, this dam line presents an outcross for the Wilodge herd.”

Glen is now resident at the Shifnal base of the Wilodge herd with the intention being to collect semen from him in 2013
