Yeovil market to close end of June

The Directors of Premier Livestock Auctions have reluctantly decided that

Yeovil Market will be closing at the end of June.

The market has been held in Yeovil for 156 years but the continuing uncertainties created by a diminishing national herd by Foot and Mouth and, more recently, Blue Tongue Disease and increasing regulation in many areas of our industry combined with all of the difficulties that come from operating a livestock market on a restricted town site centre has made it impossible to run Yeovil Market as a viable business.

Frome is already a regional centre and as a modern, purpose built market has the space and facilities to increase stock numbers and to service more clients.

Buyers and vendors both benefit from larger quantities and PLA are keen to include their existing client base, formerly at Yeovil and particularly from Dorset, in their plans to expand their influence over an even wider area..

The weekly market at Frome will continue to operate each Wednesday for all classes of stock and Yeovil’s special Candlemas Sale will continue to be run in February.
