Case cracks plough record

THE PLOUGHING world record has been broken by a Case STX500 Quadtrac. Coupled to a 20-furrow Gregoire Besson plough, the 500hp machine ploughed 321ha (793 acres) in 24 hours.Working in a 3.7km long field close to Commensacq, France, the team broke the previous record in 19.5 hours, giving the driver – French Case area manager Jean Imbert – considerable time to add to the record. In line with the world record regulations, a minimum ploughing depth of 27cm (10.5in) had to be maintained by just one driver using the same tractor and plough throughout the 24 hour period. Using a specially designed Gregoire-Besson 20-furrow plough the team started ploughing at noon, and refuelled on the move to minimise downtime.
