The host power harrow on one of Maschio Gaspardo’s highest-output seed drill combinations has been given new bearing assemblies with improved sealing to extend their service life.

This update is among a series of detail changes aimed at refining the performance and usability of the Centauro PA2 Isotronic, which brings together the manufacturer’s Aquila Super Rapido power harrow, a seeding bar with a choice of coulters, and the 2,000-litre PA2 SF tractor-mounted front hopper.

It’s available in 4m, 5m and 6m working widths with centre-split folding to the transport configuration, and is intended for tractors of 200-350hp.

The power harrow, with its double-skinned (6mm internal, 5mm external) box structure, has received the biggest update in the form of a patented bearing unit for the knife support shafts.

This single assembly, which includes the bearings and supports, is designed to cope with increased loads while resisting soil and other contaminants thanks to a series of seals and mechanical labyrinths.

The finishing rollers have new “Blindato” bearings, which Maschio Gaspardo claims deliver three times the service life of previous assemblies thanks to improved anti-contamination measures.

Other updates include restyled sheet metal protecting the cardan shaft, synthetic oil in all gearboxes, an improved light-bar design, and a soil levelling bar with finer adjustment.

Ballast blocks for mounting on the PA2 SF hopper frame are now available in weights from 220-400kg should the mass of the cultivating and drilling components need countering more effectively.

The divided all-seed or seed and fertiliser hopper operates under isobus control, has interchangeable electric motor-driven metering units, and feeds a pair of harrow-mounted distribution heads supplying the two-row seeding bar.

This can be equipped with trailing coulters sporting a single disc and skid, which is the most popular choice for its ability to handle all conditions at low cost.

Alternatives are the double Corex discs for light soils and Corex Plus discs designed to cut through surface trash and open a seed slot in heavier soils.

New for the latest version is the ability to raise the seeding bar out of work where seedbeds need additional cultivation prior to sowing; to sow at variable rates; and guidance-triggered automatic on/off.
