Kuhn unveils 4m version of Espro combi-drill

Kuhn has added a 4m version of the Espro seeder to its range of combination min-till seed drills.
The folding 4000 RC provides seed placement and fertiliser application in one pass and was originally launched in 2015.
It offers fairly low power requirements of 160-230hp and uses Kuhn’s Crossflex coulter bar, which the company says allows decent working speeds of up to 17kph because each coulter is mounted on polyurethane blocks to help follow terrain contours. Ground pressure and seeding depth adjustment are controlled hydraulically.
As with the other models, the 4000 RC uses two rows of cultivating discs followed by a single row of 900mm diameter press wheels that are offset and fitted with deep tread tyres to create a firm seed-bed.

An additional row of single-disc coulters behind the working discs delivers fertiliser or a second seed variety directly in front of the press wheels and equidistant from each of the two main rows of seed.
A 4,000-litre, twin-compartment hopper (split 2,400/1,600 litres) is standard and the material is metered through two separate distribution systems. Application rates extend to 430kg/ha through the 26 rows, spaced at 15.48cm.
An optional set of front press wheels with in-cab pressure adjustment can also be added to provide a level soil surface ahead of the working discs and to prevent the machine from sinking into lighter or wet soils.
Retail prices for the 6t machine start at £97,124.
