Lamma 2022 preview: Claydon Evolution drills

Larger hoppers, and features making them easier to use, are highlights of the Evolution drills that will replace the current mounted Hybrid models next year after their unveiling at the Lamma show.

They continue to use Claydon’s Opti-Till system that positions a slim cultivating tine ahead of the coulter to create a narrow strip of tilth for band sowing, along with a double-row rear toolbar for the covering harrow.

Hydraulically adjusted straight discs can be added up front to cut through heavy trash, and one or two additional hoppers provide versatility for sowing different varieties or companion crops.

The seed-only main hopper is enlarged by 160 litres to 1,910 litres across the half-dozen 3-6m Evolution drills, and is increased by 600 litres to 2,700 litres (with a 50:50 split) for 3m and 4m grain and fertiliser models.

Seed depth adjustment is now hydraulic and calibration is said to be easier, thanks to improved access to the metering unit.

An A-share coulter tine is standard, but multiple quick-change seed tool options allow a wide range of crops to be drilled across different soil types and conditions.
