Versatile 3m He-Va G-Drill sows grass and grain

Farmers looking for a do-it-all drill might find what they’re looking for in the latest He-Va catalogue, which now includes the 3m G-Drill.

It comes with two rows of versatile 400mm scalloped disc openers, flanked by coulter boots, that are pitched at 4deg to create a narrow seed slot with minimal surface disturbance.

Buyers can spec either 32 openers for sowing grass seed in rows spaced 94mm apart, or 24 for the 125mm spacings better suited to arable crops.

These are mounted on rubber-damped arms that follow ground contours and allow a degree of break-back to ride over stones.

They also vibrate, which UK importer Opico says helps create tilth and reduces the risk of leaving a smeared slot.

Soil consolidation is provided by a 450mm or 500mm “star ring” roller, which closes the seed channels and breaks up any clods.

Options include a 600mm-diameter flat roller in place of the stars, Shattaboard levelling paddles and a following harrow.

Seed is supplied by a Stocks Ag Turbo Jet and 400-litre plastic hopper with twin 12V electric fans

However, these can be upgraded to a 1,000-litre metal tank and hydraulically generated wind for more airflow.

The accompanying i-Con controller with 4.3in touchscreen provides automatic speed-based rate management and can be used with variable-rate prescription maps.

A 3m G-Drill with 24 coulters is priced at £33,649.
