Challenger MT875B tractor sets new world record with Gregoire Besson cultivator

Working in two monstrous fields near Timisoara, Romania, a Challenger MT875-B and Gregoire Besson XXL discs managed to turn over 644ha (1590acres) in just 24 hours – new world record.
If you’re struggling to envisage just how much land that is, it amounts to a 6in strip all the way around the equator.
Travelling at speeds of up to 20kph, the 570hp tractor gobbled up 26.8ha/hour (66acres/hour) using GPS auto-steering to ensure that the discs covered their 14m (46ft) working width at all times. That equates to 30 football pitches every hour.
Cultivating down to a depth of 10cm (4in) in medium to heavy clay loams, the Challenger used 4.42-litres/ha (1.8-litres/acre) of diesel, according to the firm.
Gregoire Besson’s XXL discs are part of a new range of cultivation tackle that the firm will be launching at Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany on 13th to 17th Nov.
