Horsch goes wider with Finer XL spring tine cultivator

Horsch has extended its Finer range of spring tine cultivators with two trailed versions that complement the existing 5-7m tractor-mounted models.
Thanks to the selection of points and finishing tools available, Horsch suggests three potential roles for the Finer cultivators:
- Shallow tillage at barely 2cm depth for weed control ahead of sowing
- Seed-bed preparation for spring-sown crops
- Full-width cultivation in stubbles at shallow depths in the autumn.

The trailed 7m will suit growers without a sufficiently muscular tractor to operate the mounted version of the same size, while the 8m steps up productivity potential with its ability to cover more ground in the time available.
Extra row
One difference between mounted and trailed models is that the flexible “S” tines are arranged across five instead of four rows on the trailed units, with each row 52cm apart and the tines at 15cm spacing.
Maximum working depth of 10cm is no different and, whether mounted or trailed, the single-leaf tines can be beefed up with a second leaf for hard, dry conditions, especially on heavier soils.
Points range from a 5cm-wide design for seed-bed preparation to a 22cm-wide wing share for cutting through weed roots at a shallow depth across the full width of the implement.
For working depth consistency, the Finer XL models have rubber-tyred depth wheels at the outer front corners of the frame wing sections, working in partnership with the finishing tool.
This can be one of several designs, from single or double crumbler rolls to solid or inverted “U” and flexible rings.
There is also the option to go with just a finishing harrow.
