Farms operating on sandy and loamy soils might welcome the addition of a new ring roller option for Amazone’s mounted cultivators.

The DFW 580 double flex packer is available on the firm’s tine-based Cenio and Cenius, and the Catros compact disc harrows.

It is said to suit light ground thanks, in part, to an open design that features a generous 280mm ring-to-ring clearance and 440mm between the rings and the small-diameter tube to which they are bolted.

This leaves plenty of space for surface residue to flow through, and their flexibility means they self-clean – making bung-ups pretty unlikely.

As a result, the weight of the roller won’t increase significantly in wet, sticky soil – which is particularly critical for mounted implements – and field hygiene should be better, as soil and weed seeds are less likely to be inadvertently carried around the farm.

According to Amazone, the continuous spring action of the rings also produces a high proportion of fine soil and delivers effective consolidation while maintaining a loose surface.
