A heavy-duty multi-tool cultivator designed to create and consolidate a seed-bed while loosening the soil profile at depth is the latest addition to Ryetec’s tillage armoury.

The Riot deploys straight-running serrated discs to cut through any surface trash and ease the path of the subsoiling tines following close behind.

Next comes two rows of dished scallop-edge discs, set at opposing angles, that break up and mix residues and soil at a relatively shallow depth. After that, a ribbed roller kept clear of sticky soil by the firm’s quick-clean scrapers consolidates the resulting tilth.

Ryetec says the aim of combining these different elements is to eliminate passes with individual implements, reducing the time and costs involved in creating a seed-bed fit for the drill.

Available initially as a 3m model, there are plans to build a complete range of sizes from 2.5m to 6m.

The leading discs are optional, enabling a grower who does not envisage using it as a primary tillage tool to save a few quid on the purchase, but the rest is to a standard build that includes hydraulic depth adjustment of the mixing discs.

Bordered by “floating” guards to minimise soil throw beyond the implement, the discs are each mounted on a single arm with a rubber-cushioned clamp attaching it to the frame.

They can be lifted out of work altogether when only subsoiling is required, and there is also hydraulic adjustment to the packer that brings up the rear.

Up front, the Riot’s subsoiling tines have a multitude of pin-and-hole depth settings between 150mm and 400mm, with 500mm spacing and 260mm point-to-point stagger considered sufficient clearance for heavily trash-laden fields.

Buyers can choose between shear-bolt and hydraulic auto reset mechanisms to protect the legs and frame from impact damage, and seeder options will also become available.
