A third model in Pottinger’s Novacat T trailed mower-conditioner range offers greater output for busy hay and silage makers, along with a number of updates shared with its two siblings.

With a mowing width of 3.89m, the Novacat T 4000 is 12% wider than the 3.47m T 3500 and cuts 27% more grass per pass than the T 3100 of 3.05m.

On all three models, drivers no longer have to hop on and off the tractor to fine tune cutting height as this is now carried out hydraulically from the cab. 

Pottinger’s Novacat T design centres on a fully-floating portal frame with four-point suspension incorporating lengthy coil springs; it allows free movement of the cutting assembly in three dimensions.

The aim is for a light touch on the sward and a speedy response to undulations for consistent cutting heights across the field.

Two-blade oval discs form a cutterbar that’s no more than 4cm high and only 28cm front-to-back, and has cleaning paddles clearing any soil accumulation.

The all-welded trough houses Pottinger’s Tri Drive gear train, which maintains three teeth in contact between adjoining spur gears at any time. 

Bevel gears and bearings can be lifted out as a single unit, followed by neighbouring idler gears through the same bed opening.

Drive to the gear train is via a right-angle gearbox and a constant velocity joint into the inner disc, with a freewheel also part of the package for a gentle slow down.

Vee-belts from the cutterbar gearbox drive Pottinger’s latest crimping roller crop conditioning unit, or the more common tine abrasion conditioner, when fitted. The two widest models can also be had as plain mowers.

Buyers taking the 3.05m Novacat T can choose between a side- or centre-mounted drawbar carried on the tractor’s lower linkage arms, while the two wider machines have a centre-mount drawbar only.
