Battery power has reached Claas’ Liebherr-built Torion 537, signified by its “e” designation and flash of blue across the bonnet.

The zero-emissions mini shovel has a 32.2kWh pack as standard, with the option of speccing two of these to extend maximum run time to a respectable 16 hours.

A 20-80% recharge apparently takes just 50 minutes, although a full-capacity juice-up will nearly double that time.

Being a Sinus variant, the 537 has a steering rear axle as well as a central pivot to allow it to turn tighter than standard models.

A Z-frame loader jib is currently the only front-end option, limiting lift height to just over 3m.

However, its 3.7t load capacity could make it a useful tool for those who don’t need to stack bales or load high-sided mixer wagons.

That’s if they’re prepared to pay the 50% price premium over a standard fossil-fuelled machine.
