Makita has given its popular EA5600F45DN “farmer’s choice” chainsaw some extra features to lower emissions and improve the day-to-day life of the operator.

Running from a two-stroke, 55.7cc engine that offers 4.1hp, the new saws include a stratified air scavenging (SAS) exhaust system.

This directs unburned combustion charge back to the induction port, which helps to reduce fuel consumption and make sure exhaust emissions are super clean.

To further maintain cleaner air, a new centrifugal air cleaner and HD air filter have been fitted, while the pull cord recoil starter has spring assistance to help on those chilly mornings.

The primer pump and an anti-icing port should also help fuel movement.

The saw is fitted with a 45cm chain bar which carries the 0.058in gauge and 0.325in pitch chain and has a chain oil system that can hold 0.32 litres.

In total, it weighs just 5.8kg and offers a larger diameter forward grip bar, while the rear handle has been separated from the engine and transmission to reduce vibration.

The 0.57-litre fuel tank has a new check window for easy viewing, while there are now captive nuts on the covers which removes the risk of these being lost during chain or bar maintenance in the field, the company says.
