Novartis breached ad rules over Zolvix

Novartis Animal Health has been found guilty of breaching advertising rules over a deworming product in sheep.

The Swiss pharmaceutical giant was found to be in breach of the National Office of Animal Health (NOAH) code on promotion of the company’s deworming product Zolvix.

The complaint related to the phrase or strapline “Zolvix – the world’s most effective wormer” in a promotion at Scotland’s national sheep event – National Sheep Association’s Scotsheep 2012 – on 6 June this year.

The NOAH committee, that is subject to the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), unanimously took the view that the phrase constituted an “all-embracing claim and a superlative which could not be substantiated”.

Full details of the committee’s rulings were published on the NOAH website
