Vogelsang develops larger capacity XSplit slurry separator

A new larger capacity screw-type slurry separator from Vogelsang can be installed in a fixed position on a big livestock farm or on a trailer for use at multiple sites.

The XSplit XS30-80 complements an existing range that starts with the compact model powered by a 4kW electric motor.

That model is said to be capable of processing slurry at up to 10cu m/hour, depending upon the consistency of the material.

In contrast, the newcomer will handle up to 175cu m/hour, so caters for the biggest herds and also large-scale biogas electricity-generating plants producing a lot of digestate.

Like all Vogelsang separators, the XSplit XS30-80 has a cone-shaped outlet and an insert of the same shape at the end of the separation chamber.

The VarioAdjust mechanism provides a hydraulic hand pump to alter the insert’s position and therefore the resistance pressure to fine-tune the system for materials of varying consistency or the end result required.

The solids fraction of the slurry or digestate initially builds up between the inner and outer cones and then backs up so that the stainless-steel screw squeezes the material against a screen.

Solid and liquid fractions

Liquid is pumped away to a lagoon for later application by tanker, umbilical applicator or dirty water irrigator, while the solids are stockpiled and applied to land by a conventional muckspreader.

Vogelsang says producing solids with up to 40% dry matter makes it suitable for use as bedding material in cow cubicles.

For maintenance, a large access hatch on the inlet end of the chamber reveals the screw and the three-piece screen.

For installations, Vogelsang offers a fixed mounting frame in sizes for 1.8m, 2.8m and 3.8m discharge heights.

For mobile use, a lifting frame with flexible inlet and outlet hoses is available.

The basic frame takes the separator to 2.8m, while the pro extends to a 3m discharge height.
