Tractor sales rise after 16 months of decline

A total of 1080 tractors over 50hp were sold in August. That’s a jump of 1.7% compared to the same month in 2009, when 1062 units were sold, says the Agricultural Engineers Association
It may not sound like a breathtaking rise, but it’s the first time since the start of 2010 that more tractors were sold in any particular month than in the same month in 2009. In fact you have to go back to March 2009 to find a month where sales beat their year-ago total.
Does this mean that tractors sales have stabilised after a long period of gentle decline? Quite possibly, though it’s still too early to say. Higher grain prices could certainly be a factor.
