RETIREMENT brought a 218-acre farm in Shropshire up for auction recently which went under the hammer for £3665/acre.

Clive Wood Farm, Clive, near Shrewsbury included a block of medium to heavy clay loam in a ring fence with about 137 acres eligible for arable area aid.

Formerly a dairy, the farm buildings incorporated kennel housing for 100 cows, some grain storage and some traditional buildings.

After an opening bid of £500,000 the farm was declared sold at £800,000 by auctioneer Gerald Williamson, Barbers.

"Certainly the outcome of the sale confirms our own experience that we have a continuing demand for farms in general whether they be stock and arable or dairy," said Mr Williamson.
