Another swine fever case in Suffolk

CLASSICAL swine fever has been discovered on another Suffolk farm, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed on Wednesday (06 Sep) afternoon.
The 4000 pigs on the farm, which lies within an existing surveillance area, will be destroyed in an effort to control the disease.
This news comes less than 24 hours since MAFF confirmed a case on a different Suffolk farm.
These new cases come as little surprise as it had been widely expected that more cases of the disease would be uncovered.
Wednesdays case brings to eight the number of instances to be confirmed in East Anglia since 12 August.
MAFF could not give any more details on the new case at the time of writing.
Pig industry representatives are meeting with farm minister Nick Brown on Wednesday afternoon.
They hope to persuade the minister to offer more government money to help farmers hit by swine fever controls.
