Retiring farm manager George Parrish (right) has seen many changes in his working life – all of them at the Combe Estate, Cobham, Surrey, where he has worked for the same family for 51 years.

He started out as farm boy in 1946 working for the late Mr Charles Combe, a brewery tycoon. His son, Dominic Combe (left), said: "It is the passing of an era when someone like George, a wonderful farmhand and friend of the family for all those years, retires. My father and myself enjoyed many happy and memorable times with him."

George, who has worked with horses and computerised combine harvesters and done most jobs on the estate from gardening to forestry, is looking forward to finding the time for a bit of fishing.
