Fluorescent lights are not unbreakable – indeed, they can break very easily if knocked or disturbed. If they should break in a grain store the result of glass pollution could be dire. Covershield, based at Merebrow, Preston, now offers a range of plastic tubes to fit over fluorescent lights which, it claims, will contain glass in the event of a breakage. Reusable with a life of up to 12 years, an 8ft version costs about £12, depending on the quantity ordered.
